The Thursday before Easter Asher's teacher called me to see if I could come help with the egg hunt that day instead of Friday. We were forecast for torrential rains on Friday. Thankfully I didn't have other plans and was able to head up to the school around lunch, fill over 200 eggs, then add them to the other 100 that were already filled, and go "hide" them the best I could on the practice field. The kids had a blast filling up their bags!
Then on Friday, Asher came home from school with a 103% on his Spelling Test - he had worked so hard that week not only learning to spell the words, but to write them legibly in cursive. The week before, he had his first cursive test, and it did not go well. John and I were very proud of his hard work and practice! So that evening, I took him and Allie to the movie theater in town to see Rio as a treat - a very cute movie.
Saturday afternoon we dyed 4 dozen eggs with the kids. We had two stations set up. One traditional, and one that was a homemade recipe for coloring eggs that used oil and food coloring along with the vinegar and water. It was a very interesting and different effect. Each of the kids dyed a dozen eggs at each station.
Easter morning, the kids woke up by 7a to find their hidden Easter baskets. They were surprised to also see over 40 eggs "hidden" around the living room, dining room, and kitchen. With all the rain we have had, plus more forecast for the day, the Easter bunny really didn't have a choice! We all got ready for church, and went out front to take some pictures before the rain hit. Thankfully a handful turned out! Mimi literally dressed the kids from head to toe - we had gone shopping when we visited over Spring Break - and the kids got so many compliments at church that morning.
The best news of all for this April/Easter Season...Asher asked Jesus to be his Savior! It was a Tuesday night after our Bible study, before bed. We had been studying humility and putting others first, and had just read and discussed the passage in Matthew 25:31-46 about the parable of the sheep and goats. After our study Asher told me he wanted to be with God forever. That he wanted to know God was in his heart and that he would live with God and Jesus forever in heaven. He prayed the sweetest prayer, and it was very emotional for us both. The feeling of peace and hope I feel in my heart knowing he is saved is really indescribable. I'm incredibly thankful! God is so good!
