The Chicken Chronicles, Entry 2
Yesterday we had a record 4 eggs! Two in the morning, and then two more when we closed up the hens for the night. Woohoo! We are getting in production! This morning there was one when I went to let them out at 9 am, and one of the Dotty's was in that nest box, either she had just laid that egg - it was still warm, talk about fresh! - or she was happening to keep it warm while she was waiting to lay. When I went back down to check around 11 am there was another egg in that nest box. So cool to have farm fresh eggs and boy do they taste awesome. Even Asher, who hasn't liked eggs in over 2 years, loves these eggs and asks to have them for supper! And John is able to tolerate them as well, we weren't sure if he would be able to as store-bought eggs, even the "farmer" ones, make him sick.
John is on his way home from a short day at work and went by the Southern States to pick up another roll of the close-knit fencing - $170!! - and then he went to the Mill to get more tin roofing. He told me on the phone he is so ready to be done with this project yet knows it will still be many work days before it is complete. With new baby chicks on the way and the current hens finally laying, we know we have to get that area secure.
I need to take some pics of the area in progress!
