Currently Asher is resting, Allie is playing with Check-Up Elmo - screeching at him as he talks to her - and John is having fun with the guys muddin' on the 4-wheeler.
I on the other hand, haven't even had a shower and am still in pj's at 3 pm. Ah, holiday break.
Tonight around 5 we are going to the Mullikin's - our neighbors 3 miles down the road. Gayle is our realtor and her, her husband Roger, and two sons Zach & Caleb have a small farm they raise sheep on. Zach and Caleb are two of the guys John is muddin' with. Zach bought all the hay we could make that we hadn't already promised to someone else this past summer, and they still need more for their sheep. It was a dry, unproductive summer.
Anyway. Tonight we are going to their house along with several other people - who I don't know and how many I don't know - to eat and visit for awhile. With two kids under age 4 we will not be ringing in the New Year there! LOL! But it will be nice to visit awhile. Gayle absolutley loves our kids. Her and Asher just have a big time. It is also fun to see the sheep, especially since some of their herd is due to have their babies any day now! When I asked when they were due, Roger jokingly said as soon as it gets down to 10 degrees at night. Seems like it is always the coldest nights of the winter those sheep decide to give birth. They might give us a call depending on the time of day/night and if John isn't on call I want to take Asher to go see a baby lamb be born.
Earlier this year Gayle wanted to give Asher a sheep to raise. We even named it Marshmallow and took pics with it. But we didn't have the fence needed for it. So they have talked about giving him another baby lamb this year instead - problem is we still don't have fence up yet. Gayle says it is important to give the lamb to Asher at a specific time so that it bonds with him (and us) before it gets too old. We'll see how it all works out.
Also we have two horses we might buy. Some friends of ours are moving to Michigan by March and have to leave their farm here (well actually it is across the river in Ohio), therefore have to find new homes for their two horses, Whiskey and Finny. They are some of the best horses, very tame and good with people and kids. Finny is actually a pure bred cattle horse. I would love to have them but yet again - need fence and also have to make sure we are willing to take on that responsibility and expense for nothing (monetary) in return. Finny could have foals that would be worth around $3000 each, but she has only given birth once and had complications and that foal died, and she was pretty torn up so if she were to get pregnant again she would have to have surgery to birth the foal. We are told a place in Lexington would do it for free for the experience.
These horses eat a large round bale of hay every two weeks throughout the winter. In the spring/summer they could graze but then that would take away pasture for haying. Plus John wants cattle and was hoping to have them by this summer - depending on the fencing of course - and horses would take away from cattle grazing/haying. So we'll have to talk about it more before we make a decision. I would absoutely love to have them, but also want us to all be on board and know what we are getting into!
