Chicken Coop Pics
As promised, here are some pics of the "compound". John has done an amazing job and has just worked tirelessly. Even more work has been done since I took these pics Sunday morning! The roof is complete, and only the trenching on the inside section (that's attached to the barn) needs to be done as well as patching up here and there to make sure it's critter proof where edges meet.
Don't mind the extra white door and the extra wood - that needs to be stored back in the barn. Note there is a real door to the coop now instead of just the gate - which will be left intact as a second line of defense.
John and Ash working, digging trench.
*note the metal trap - that is the one that caught the mink that massacred our chickens, we still keep it baited and have not caught a thing else since the mink*
Welcome, come on in! Entrance to hen house is on the left, by the blue bowl. The door swings out open and we bungee it to the house itself to hold it open during the day. The structure straight ahead is an old outhouse! (no longer in use, haha)
Inside peek at part of the henhouse - nest boxes are along the far wall - there are actually two hens in there, one in the middle and one in the far end boxes, but hard to see in this pic.
T-Rex the rooster (on the left) with a few of the hens amidst construction debris.
View of their outdoor area, what a construction zone!!
Jackpot eggs! These were all laid between noon Saturday and 3 pm Sunday - from 8 hens!
