I've mentioned in previous posts about the new deer-proof electric fence John installed this Spring. It is 38,000 square feet of 8 foot tall fence, and has worked beautifully to keep out the unwanted deer that eat our poor plants down to nubs. Another thing I love about it: since it's electric wire it's not intrusive on the landscape like woven wire fencing. While John was building it, he said it reminded him of the fence on Jurassic Park. We dubbed it "The Fortress" and the name has stuck!
Inside The Fortress is our vegetable garden, a separate garden plot for melons, over 150 raspberry plants, over 20 blackberry plants, and over 20 fruit trees. And there's still room for more. :)
Our vegetable garden is huge this year, with onions, snap peas, bok choy, tomatoes, corn, sweet potatoes, red potatoes, corn, bell peppers.
First snap peas of the season earlier this week! We had them in garlic & ginger beef stir-fry that evening along with the homegrown bok choy (along with other vegetables).

Veggie garden.

Fortress.

Here's Allie with John on Tuesday, June 1st, for her first swim of the season.

Yesterday was another busy Saturday! We had a baseball game for Asher at 12:40p. Their team did great, winning 23-4. He got 2 hits, got on base one of those times and was able to make it to home by the next hitters. Then we went to a Skating Party for a friend. Ash was off and going right away, Allie took a little longer - she remembered falling at Asher's party and kept saying "I put my skates on and FALL!" After the skate party we went to GameStop for Asher to buy 2 DS games with giftcards he had gotten for his birthday.

Today we are home, there are thunderstorms expected all day. I will finish packing for our trip. We plan to leave first thing tomorrow morning. John said the house sure will be quiet while we are gone! We are going to Memphis to see Mimi and Papa (John's parents) until Wednesday, then will drive on down to Hot Springs (3.5 hours past Memphis) to see my parents through the weekend, then will go back to Mimi and Papa's on the way home for another couple of days. The kids are soooooo super excited and so am I! Can't wait to be with family!
