Oh, the things!

The things that 5 year olds say! And our 5 year old was full of it this past Saturday. It started with John heading out late morning to a neighboring farm to check on the 4 new packages of bees. Asher wanted to go with him, so into the bee clothes they went and off they drove. While there, Asher pointed out that he had two holes in his back pockets. You know, where the pocket meets the jeans; it had pulled and created a hole on each side about the size of a nickel. These jeans are like 10 years old. He then asked John if a bee had ever stung him right there! It's not like bare skin was showing, we do wear underclothes after all plus John had 2 shirts on and both tucked in. It was just funny that Ash saw the holes and thought - aha! A bee could get you right there! We wanted to do something special with Asher this past weekend for having such good behavior the month of March and also for acing every Spelling test, including the bonus words. I had thought to take him to see the movie Monsters v. Aliens, but when I called our local theater on Friday afternoon, it wasn't showing over the weekend. ?? Only on Mon-Thur. Strange! Then we thought about Chuck E Cheese, but we weren't really wanting to drive over to Cincinnati either. On Saturday morning, pretty much as soon as Ash woke up, he started asking if he and John could go fishing! So we decided that would be his special treat. When they got done with the bees, they came back home and got everything loaded up and headed out around noon. They haven't been out together on the boat since last Fall. It was a bluebird sky day and a front had just come through - one of the worst times to go fishing (if there is such a thing, haha). But the desire and time was there to do it, so off they went to a little lake about an hour south. John said a tournament was just ending, and there weren't hardly any fish that were caught. And the lake was busy, busy being a Saturday. They were trying to fish for crappie, as the bass restrictions are ridiculous on that lake. Nothing was biting, not even perch, and Ash of course was getting bored. He took a snack break and sat down behind the steering wheel. John has a really cool GPS and fish sonar thingie mounted right there, and it caught Asher's eye. He started asking all about it, and John was explaining how it worked, how you can see the contours of the lake below and look for fish and rocks and sticks and so forth. Ash stuck his hand in the water and wiggled it around and asked where his hand was on the screen! LOL. John told him the camera is below the trolling motor, at the front of the boat. Well, a few minutes go by and John is at the front fishing, and Asher makes his way up there, leans over the front of the boat, then hurries back to look at the screen. John asked him, "What are you doing?" And Asher said, "I put a Cheeto in the water, right by the camera and I am looking for it on the screen! Do you see my Cheeto Daddy?" By this point John is cracking up as he glances at the water and sees Asher's Cheeto floating by the boat. Ash was determined to see something on that sonar by golly!!! John taught Ash how to throw a spinning reel with a crappie jig on it. He said he did pretty good for his first time, but he would get the line either hung out in the water or get the line all tangled up. He would then hand it to John, and John would hand him another rod that was ready and would then proceed to repair the messed up one. By the time he had that one fixed, Ash would have the other one messed up, so off they would switch again. It was quite comical as he is relating all of this to me Saturday evening. I am laughing sitting here typing it, picturing the scene. John said this went on for awhile, and one of the times Asher handed him a hung line, John started to reel it in and then realized, there is a fish on this thing! He told Asher, "It's not hung, there's a fish on here!" Poor kid didn't know the difference as the fish were totally not biting that day and all he had done was tangle or hang up his line. LOL!!! They didn't catch a single other fish, and John told me that was a lesson for Asher in realizing you don't always catch fish, that part of fishing is just getting out and enjoying being on the water. Of course it's always more fun when you are catching fish, but hey. You can't make them jump on the hook. Now it's Monday, and a rainy one to boot. Severe storms moved in our area around 8pm last night. There were Tornado Watches in effect but they never advanced to Warnings. I was grateful for our Weather Alert radio - it really makes a difference knowing you can go to bed and not worry as you know it will alarm if there is a Warning! Oh, I got some hair clips done this weekend. Including a Korker Bow, which was what I was wanting to do as part of my April Challenge. Here's the Korker, it's @ 3 inches wide. Here is a Triple Stack Bow which was also new for me. It's pretty big, at least 4 inches wide. Here are some lined clippies I did end of last week. And here are some Flower Pens I also did last week.
